It can’t be reiterated enough how tough the economy we are now facing. That is why everyone, even big and multinational companies are thinking and devising ways cut their expenses. This is the very reason why a lot businesses are thinking, when it comes to their storage system, whether to buy new or second hand pallet racking system as their storage system. Actually, both can be viable as long as you know exactly what you really want for your business and what are the pros and cons of buying a new system versus buying a second hand one.
Second Hand
Generally, second pallet racking system is relatively cheaper and is readily available (usually 1 to 2 weeks) for shipping depending on your bulk order. It costs about 40%-50% less than a new system and basically has the same quality and dexterity as the new system. You will have a good idea if what you have bought is still good quality pallet racking system if: the pallets are not kept outside for a long period of time, rusts have not set in, the system that you are buying now was new and you are the first second hand owner/buyer and lastly you should think about the model of what you are buying in case you want to add on.
If pallets have been kept outside for a long time, chances are weather have already damaged the steels and its original strength may have been compromised already. Issues of safety and durability will then be your primary concern at this point. It is the same thing with rusts. There are times rusts are just being covered by nice paints and you will never know anymore if this has been the case or not. It is better to inspect what you are buying first hand before you go into a contract. It is also a big issue if what you are buying a very old model or have been handed down to many other companies as well. This will be harder for you to trace its history. Another thing is if you want to add on in the future you will have to worry about finding additional pallets just like the one that you have.
New Pallets
If what you want is a long term, specialized and personalized storage system for your business, then ordering and installing a new pallet system would be ideal. Yes, it may cost more and it may take longer to deliver and install but in the long term, it is worth it.
For one thing, new pallets that will be installed will be up to standard of what is required by law. Because of the ever changing climate that we have, and new discoveries and developments about safety measures, etc, there are also changes in the Codes and Requirements. It is always better to be updated about these important things. There are also issues about the psi range and seismic calculations factors that buyers should also be aware of.
Whatever your choice may be whether to install a new one or second hand pallets, safety and durability should be your primary concern. Cost and other considerations on your part should only come second because eventually, what you pay for is what you will certainly get.
